What does “expert” mean

As you probably know, the description “expert” is everywhere online and you are possibly looking for one right now, which is why you are here.

I am writing this post to hone in on what makes a therapist an “expert” in the field of Couples Therapy and Marriage Counselling.

What should you be looking for in the right “expert” couples therapist for you at this critical juncture in your life. You probably never thought that Couples Therapy or Marriage Counselling would ever be part of your future together, but here you are reading this, hence some relationship troubled waters urgently need to be navigated……..and navigated well.

There is so much at stake that if you get this choice of therapist wrong then the price to pay can be monumental. Loss of home, loss of family unit, perhaps loss of friends, even loss of business.

So we are looking for experience and expertise……and while you can assess experience it’s a whole different challenge to assess expertise.

Naturally I am going to spell out my experience here. Then I have a link to follow which confirms my expertise.

My experience is 30 years as a Psychologist, 18 years of those working almost exclusively with Couples In Crisis. Just recently tipped over 4,000 couples. A tally done from 2016 – 2018 showed 90% of those guided over 2016, 2017 and 2018 reported a positive outcome.

During these past 18 years I have studied extensively the trainings of the recognised Couples Therapy world experts. Some in person and some I have gained Certifications with. The main list is as follows:

John and Julie Gottman – Scientificall Based Marital Therapy, Sue Johnson – Emotionally Focussed Therapy, Dan Wiles (now deceased) – Healing After Fights, Terry Real – Relational Life Therapy, Imago – Fighting Better, Stan Tatkin – PACT – PsychoBiological Approach, Esther Perel – Passion and Intimacy, Mating In Captivity, The State Of Affairs, Barry Mc Carthy – Enhancing Couples Sexuality.

I invite you to delve into my expertise HERE

***DISCLAIMER: While successful Couples Therapy is heavily dependent on the willingness and commitment of each partner, individual personality types and family history may play a large part in what has created a problematic relationship which are both out of a therapist’s control. Hence results cannot be guaranteed.
